Genuki.org.uk  The UK and Ireland Genealogical Information Service is probably the best place to start when searching for your ancestors on the web. Maintained by an enthusiastic band of volunteers, it's an exhaustive collection of names and places, backed up with priceless information and links.

The Genealogy Home Page  A huge site containing links to every genealogy site under the sun. Much of the information is US based but there is more than enough information on UK names and also lots of general tips on sifting through your family tree.

Sog.org.uk  The Society of Genealogists does not have a flashy site but there's plenty of useful information here.
