Holiday & Travel Information
Thinking of getting away from it all. Whether it's for a two day short break or a two week holiday, one of the most important things to consider when choosing accommodation is accessibility, you do want to enjoy your break. Don't forget to inform the accommodation provider of your needs.
Most people recognise the wheelchair symbol to identify accessibility, but for a more in-depth indication of the accessibility of a building or attraction, look for the National Accessible Scheme standards.
The VisitBritain National Accessible Scheme for self-catering, holiday parks and serviced accommodation includes standards for hearing and visually impaired guests in addition to standards for guests with mobility impairment.
Accommodation that displays one or more of the symbols is committed to accessibility. When you see one of the symbols, you be sure that the accommodation has been thoroughly assessed against demanding criteria; the different accessible ratings will help you choose the one that best suits your needs.
How do you find accommodation that has been assessed? When enquiring about accommodation ask if they have been assessed by VisitBritain to the standards or the National Accessible Scheme.
VisitBritain do not promote accommodation that has been self assessed to the criteria so you can be assured that an assessor has visited and awarded the rating if they are listed on www.enjoyengland.com with one of the logos below. Apart from over 100 specific criteria for eack level, you can expect operators with the ratings to provide:
Full details of the standard can be viewed on www.tourismtrade.org.uk in the quality section.
