ZDnet freeware. Download everything from news tickers to FTP clients with this huge collection of the best in free Internet applications.
Shareware.Com. Run by c|net, this site has a comprehensive collection of files across all the categories including drivers for graphics cards, modems, scanners and so on.
Phonenumbers.net. An excellent site for finding people all over the world. It includes extensive directories for home phone numbers and addresses, e-mail, fax and business numbers.
Finding people on the net. Excellent links to other useful sites. You get the usual selections of e-mail and address search sites and you'll find links to college databases and software such as Finger to help you figure out where a sender of e-mail hails from.
Missing you, UK missing persons. A great resource to connect people looking for lost friends, relatives and the like in the UK. Posting your search details is free and the whole site is divided into regions, making your search easier.
Whowhere. Search tool for finding people in the US. Not only do you get their phone number, if they are listed, but you also get directions and a map of the area they live in, great if you're planning to drop in unexpectedly on relatives!

Infolaw. Massive resource with news on recent changes in parliamentary case and statutes law and a wealth of links.

Court Service. There are diagrams explaining the court hierarchy. There is a forms and leaflets section where you can fill out and then download various useful legal forms.

UK Police Search the map to get info on your local police service, it's policies, news and community schemes.
UpMyStreet.com is a website that helps you pick and probe at the latest published statistics about where you live today or might live tomorrow. It also carries direct links to a wide variety of useful local services.
Neuroscience Online Dictionary. Florida State University provide direct links to a number of online references, including Webster's dictionary, the Logos multilingual dictionary and technical and computing dictionaries.

Project Gutenberg. Project Gutenberg has gathered hundreds of books that exist in the public domain and turned them into e-texts (electronic texts or, in this case, electronic books), that can be read online or downloaded. Here you'll find classic novels, poetry and reference works from TS Eliot to William Shakespeare and the Bible. The site is free, but donations are welcome.
Encyclopedia.com. This is a free site that contains over 17,000 articles from the Concise Columbia Electronic Encyclopaedia. A great resource when you want to access facts fast, if no one else is on the Net that is! You can search or browse by alphabetical order. There are links to related websites, books and articles from the Electric Library, a pay service.
Babelfish. If you want something translated fast then this site is for you. This search site will translate any web content or your own text, cut and pasted into it's own translation window. to or from any of six European languages.
